With the new year coming up people are scrambling to reinvent themselves. Whether it’s fitness guru, goth, or granola; adding a bit of chicness to life is attainable to all… Chic is not just a style, but a way of life. Anyone can be chic regardless of how you dress, because it’s the little things that add to your chicness.
With the holiday season approaching, your upcoming purchases and gifts can make or break your chic aura. Fast fashion is the least chic way you could spend your money; the average garment is worn 7-10 times before being thrown away, accounting for at least 10% of our carbon emissions. That being said, try to make an effort to buy timeless pieces that will withstand the endless, everchanging microtrends. An easy way you can do this is upcycling and recycling fashion: shop at thrift stores and sew old clothes to create something new that is special to you! Remember, you can’t be chic if you are trying to be someone else: being genuine and unique is the best way to max out your chic meter. Stylistic choices that can always add a dash of chic to your outfit include little things, like wearing niche, dark, muted colors over your basic pastels, mixing metals in your jewelry and doing short, fun nails.
It must be said that chicness isn’t simply what you wear but also how you carry yourself. Make sure that you are always being kind, respectful and genuine, and hopefully after taking these tips you can easily be confident in everything you do (the chicest.) As semester one workload begins to ease, now could be a great time to look into new hobbies (that you actually enjoy). It is very chic to have unique interests that you are knowledgeable and passionate about. These could range from curating your own art style, collecting stamps, taking martial arts classes, or spending more time outdoors. Whatever makes you happy! Next time you find yourself doom scrolling, remember brain rot is not chic. Make sure the media you consume benefits you and actively adds something to your life, as this will immediately increase your chic aura with little to no work needed.
