You are what you eat… the shows you watch, the books you read, the music you listen to, and especially the social media you consume. We consume things that aren’t food all day, which is why we need to be mindful of those “foods.”
Whether we’d like to admit it or not, we’ve all been victims of doomscrolling. Regardless if it’s a random Tuesday night before that AP Lang test you definitely didn’t study for or after a long day of school, quickly hopping on TikTok has become second nature for many people. In both scenarios, you put down your phone feeling more tired or guilty, only to dream of Mr. Lovre’s disappointed face when he gives out your test score the next day.
Our excessive social media consumption tends to be a response to procrastination, and finding the “best solution” to this problem can be hard. I could just tell you to read Atomic Habits and end this right here, but I’m certain you’ll procrastinate about that too.
The easiest way to fix this issue is using a diagram, not just any diagram but THE nutrition plate. Think about your screen time like a meal. What are you feeding your brain? If it were actual food, would it be healthy? The nutrition plate for your media consumption makes sure you “eat” healthy every day. You scrolled on TikTok all day? No problem. The nutrition plate provides alternate activities that’d make your life better!
