Spring Formal
This year, ASB is organizing a spring formal dance for the 14th of March. The event will be held at the Nippon Kan Theatre which is located near Pioneer Square right off of Yesler. The venue is a historic brick building that was constructed in 1904. The “Starry Night” dance allows for a semi-formal dress code of navy blues and goldens. The dance will also be DJed by three of Garfield’s very own students, so music compliments and complaints can go directly to them. It has also been advertised as a “TOLO” dance which traditionally means that the girls ask the boys out. So ladies it is time to take charge!
Jazz Concert
Garfield’s jazz band is having one of their biggest concerts of the year at the Paramount Theatre with capacity for up to 3,000 guests. The “Hot Java, Cool Jazz” concert is a Garfield tradition and will take place this year on March 27th. The event is held by Starbucks and all ticket sales go directly back to the music program. The Garfield jazz band will be playing with four other bands from high schools in Seattle. Tickets are $25 each.
Blood Drive
Blood club is having a blood drive on Saturday, March 21st. If you are over 16 you can go and donate blood and help save lives. Blood club works in partnership with Bloodworks Northwest to organize the drive. There are certain requirements to be eligible to donate at a “mobile site” – reach out to Blood Club President, Sanne Balkenede, for more information! The blood drive will be held in the Garfield parking lot outside of the Teen Life Center from 10am to 4pm!
Multi-Cultural Assembly
Garfield’s annual Multi-Cultural Assembly is going to be held on May 1st. While it is a bit far out, the late date provides for plenty of time for preparation. Usually, clubs and ethnic groups at Garfield perform a dance or or traditional customs unique to their culture for the whole school. It is a way to celebrate Garfield’s diversity and learn about different cultures.
