- Benchpress a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage DE
Here’s an easy resolution that even the freshmen can participate in! For those who want an extra challenge, pick a heavier car model. This one is for the beginners. At a feather-light 1,900 lbs, even someone who has never touched a weight in their life could lift this automobile with ease. In fact, one hand is probably enough to get this tiny car in the air. To anyone interested, just remember: keep those elbows tucked and arch that back!
2. Complete an Iron-Man
Resolutions can be beginner friendly, with this one being a goal for people who are more used to chilling on their couch and scrolling reels! This laidback race consists of a calming 2.4 mile swim followed by a relaxing 112 mile bike ride with a cool-down 26.2 mile run afterwards. This event is perfect for people who want to complete their New Years goals ASAP, as it really only takes a maximum of three weeks to prepare… Even with just a week of simple fitness training, a sub-17 hour completion time isn’t out of the picture!
3. Lateral Raise Your Body Weight
This one is mostly for the gym-rats, or for people who plan to hit the gym this year. Beginner lifters should be able to build up to this one in the next six months, and long-time lifters can likely cross it off their list with two months of solid practice. Most beginner lifters start off with lat-raising around 60 pounds, but don’t get discouraged if even 50 feels like a lot. Everyone starts somewhere! This goal is definitely a bit more obtainable with a few months of training, but every moderate bodybuilder should be able to lat-raise 150+. It’s a rite of passage.
4. Free Solo Mt. Rainier
This one is for all the granola kids we have here at Garfield. Forget about the upcoming Post84 trip- it’s time to focus on the next big goal. For those unfamiliar, “free solo” is a rock climbing term for climbing alone and without any of that pesky safety equipment (which just slows everyone down). Combining all of that with the icy and frigid conditions of Mt. Rainier (and don’t forget the avalanches!) makes for an exciting challenge. This free solo climb is exactly what every Bulldog needs to get a headstart in 2026!
5. Get Signed to the Mariners
After their disappointing loss in the ALCS, the Mariners would be lucky to gain a Bulldog or two on their roster! Truly not much elaboration needed in this case, just do it!
