At Garfield, some of the biggest school spirit events are sports games. Most popular are basketball and football games, but all games are a great place to bond with classmates and go out without being at a party. While the players have to bring their A game to the court or field (or whatever the sport that no one really watches) is played on, the fans are trusted to bring their A game in the stands. The true gameday competition is who can look best on the bleachers while still following the absurd themes that ASB chooses.
Purple out:
With such a classic theme, it can be hard to differ from the cloud of purple on the bleachers. However, while most people just dig whatever “Shoulda been a bulldog” shirt out of their closet, there are ways to up the ante. Grab every purple item, bandanas, beaded necklaces, overalls, and throw them on.
Neon nights:
This is the time to shine and blind everyone else. Go to the dollar tree and buy as many glow sticks as possible. Necklaces, bracelets, everything. Order a neon wig that will get passed around the whole student section. The outfit doesn’t need to be “cute” for this theme, just as neon as possible and construction worker chic.
Tropical:
In Seattle it’s always raining, especially during football season. There are two months a year to wear anything close to tropical, and those months aren’t during the school year. It is extremely important to take advantage of a tropical sports game theme. Wear those leis and (school appropriate of course) bikini tops.
USA:
Yeehaw! Obviously this is the time to wear cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and whatever else screams wild west. In Seattle there aren’t many opportunities to let the stereotypical U.S. fashion loose, but a high school sports game can always be counted on. The only solid rule for this theme is strictly red, white, and blue attire.
